Book Review: Zel (Deviants and Saints) Shantaye Brown

Asher is a college student and a track star. He’s a player on campus, getting every girl he’s ever wanted, taking pleasure when and where he wants it. He makes no promises and gives just the pleasure he and his mysterious Prince Albert piercing provide to the girls. But, Asher has a problem…he’s obsessed by a sexy as hell Jamaican beauty, Zelina.

Zelina is a badass, alpha female. She needs no one, lets no one close, and manages every aspect of her life. Complications are dangerous in her line of work, especially a college jock with an unhealthy fixation. She works for herself, and lets no one close. She can’t, she has a routine, and for an assassin, her routine is what keeps her alive.

Asher provides the biggest distraction she’s run against. The easiest thing to do is to kill him. But when her assistant, Riley, reveals an interesting fact about the tractstar she’s taken prisoner, Zel finds herself hesitant to pull the trigger.

The longer she keeps him around, the more he makes her feel. And for an assassin, feelings bring the worst danger of all.

This is not your typical boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy wins girl back romance. This debut novel for this author takes the entire romance trope and flips it on it’s head.

Zel is a badass heroine. She needs no saving. And Asher is a stalker who gets caught, imprisoned, and stabbed by his girl. It’s a mental mess of a story…but it works!

It’s hot. It’s sexy. The chemistry between these two is smoking. HOT. HOT. HOT.

My only complain is that it ends on a cliffhanger and not all the story elements are resolved, but the sequel is coming out….Ash, Deviants and Saints 2….!
