Dark Notes is a fabulous new release by my favorite author Pam Godwin. I've been following this beautiful lady for … YEARS. And I consider myself incredibly lucky.
Why?
Because she entrusts her stories to me in their rawest form. I am one of her critique partners, and have critiqued each one of her fabulous masterpieces. It is with great excitement and enthusiasm to be on this road with her, that she allows me here at all is the greatest privilege.
I was there for her debut novel DEAD OF EVE, and this…THIS MASTERPIECE, DARK NOTES….this is a true work of art!
AND so, with this release I had so many questions, things I'd asked over the years and things I should have asked. So, what better than to combine her latest release with a few well timed questions about the magic behind this gloriously talented lady.
Meet Pam Godwin, not only does she write sexy as fuck words, but the woman is beyond beautiful. If I didn't like her so damn much, I would definitely want….well, I'll just keep that to myself….no I won't…I would HATE this woman if I didn't LOVE her so DAMN much!
So, questions….I have a few and she was wonderful enough to answer some.
*clearing throat*…..*shuffling my papers*
(LOL…like I really did that!)
Writers have many different reasons for beginning their writing journey. What was it for you? What happened that made you decide to start writing?
I read books I wanted to change/edit/alter. So I decided to write my own.
Do you write full-time or part-time?
Full-time
What is your writing practice like? Do you have a special time to write? How is your day structured?
(I ask this because I want to know the magic behind her process. Right? If I do what she does then….)
I write all day while the kids are at school, break for a couple hours to do mom things, then write all night until I pass out.
(hmmm…sounds like a lot of hard work! But damn is it worth it to get her WORDS!!!!)
What draws you to this genre?
I love horror and erotic romance, so Dark Romance is a perfect combination.
(yes, it's a perfect combination, because this reader/author loves exactly the same…you see, I ask these to become her…)
*looking around with shifty eyes*
(can she read my comments???…hmmm)
What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I outline every scene in detail before I begin writing the first chapter.
(now this I know, because this is the biggest difference between the two of us…she's an obsessive PLOTTER…LIKE an uber plotter, whereas I'm more of a fly by the seat of my pants kind of gal. And she's slowly converting me to the darkside…slowly. I just wanted ALL OF YOU to know how weird she is.)
~le sigh~
*taking notes from the master*
Where do your ideas come from?
Real life stories from people I talk to or things I hear on the news.
(this terrifies me, because I've told her things….OH, and BTW, she named one of the characters in the book after me. We're nothing alike…almost nothing alike!)
What was the hardest thing about writing your latest book?
Learning music terms/theories. I am NOT a musician.
(OMG…this is the beauty of this book! The music, like New Orleans where the story is situated, is seeped with music. It saturates every page until you feel the music soaring within you.)
How much research do you do?
A lot. I spend as much time researching as I do writing.
What is the easiest thing about writing?
The actual writing part. Everything else (research, marketing, graphic art, blurbs) is much harder.
(The actual writing part…this woman has no idea how fabulous she is…)
How long on average does it take you to write a book?
3 months to write a 300-page book.
(300 pages/3 months ==> 100 pages/month ==> 3.333 pages a DAY!!!!!
And that's from First Draft to Published manuscript!)
Give us an insight into your main character. What do they do that is so special?
Ivory is a poor girl in an elite performing arts school. Despite all her roadblocks, she manages to keep a positive outlook on her future and never gives up.
What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
The scene when Ivory’s teacher finds her in an illegal and desperate situation with another student. I love writing a man in the midst of passionate rage, and Mr. Marceaux was a force of fuming fire when he caught her.
(YES! YES! YES! OMG, that is one HAWT scene…Mr. Marceaux goes all ALPHA DOM…you'll have to buy her book to KNOW what I mean.)
Tell us about the cover and how it came about.
I fell in love with a photo, and with the help from my street team, I cropped and edited it into a perfect depiction of the story.
What is/are your future project(s)?
I’m working on Disclaim (book #3 in my Deliver series). After that, I will finish the final installment in my Trilogy of Eve series.
(This makes me do a happy dance…I love, love, f-love the Deliver series.)
Which of your characters would you want to date?
Michio from my Trilogy of Eve series. He’s a brilliant doctor, sexy as hell, and a fierce close-combat fighter.
(I want to do some close combat … stuff with Michio too. Not fighting exactly…)
Which character would you want to have a beer with?
Oh, hands down, it would be Father Roark from my Trilogy of Eve series. That dude is a drinking machine, and he has a fantastic sense of humor.
If you had three wishes…
1. My kids will always be happy.
2. My greyhound will live 100 human years.
3. I will write for the rest of my life.
So…NOW…You all now know how much I adore the fabulous Pam Godwin.
She is a force of beauty, talent, and all things feminine and powerful.
When asked what is my FAVORITE Pam Godwin book…I would have to say…ALL of them!
Really, it's whichever one I'm currently critiquing, because this woman just keeps getting better and better and better…so good in fact…one of her ‘characters' will have a cameo role in my next novel.
You'll have to stick around to figure out WHAT I'm talking about….because THIS post isn't about ME…it's all about HER!
And speaking of PAM GODWIN…you seriously NEED to buy this book!
