I might have thought our conversation was finished, but you certainly blathered on. For the next six days the rumblings of your deep voice echoed in our cavernous prison day and night.
You would not shut up.
Ignoring you seemed to only spur you on to more sonorous discourse. I huddled against the wall, hands pressed against my ears, desperately trying to tune you out.
The first night was the worst. Non-stop you spoke of ‘rutting,' like it was your newest, most favorite word. Your curled the word in your mouth and told me how you would take me, how I wasn't to fear you. This was something I should welcome, because you would protect me.
Before sleep finally overtook me, I'd decided you were truly, utterly, and completely mad.
I believe you interpreted my silence as fear, which it rightly was that first night, but your non-stop talk turned my blood to a slow boil by the end of the second day. Anger filled me instead. If my chains had been long enough, I would have wrapped them around your throat just to shut you up.
You weren't like the one before you. No. He was a monster. He cursed and spit and railed at his chains, pulling and tugging at them, and telling me how he would hurt me when he raped me.
You were an altogether different kind of crazy. You thought I would welcome your touch. You spoke of caresses and nuzzling, licking and suckling. I didn't get the suckling bit. You wanted to curl up with me and hold me, warm me through the night.
I think you finally figured out my anger when I threw your ration of water across the divide. I just wanted you to shut the fuck up.
The rounding of your golden orbs with the spilling of the water over the stone stopped my heart beating. I thought you would lunge at me. The one before you would have. The chains would have held you back, but the threat of violence always made my heart race.
Instead, you gave me that which I'd been seeking…blessed silence.
And my anger turned to fear.
And your turned your back to me for the first time.
The next three days we spent in silence, until Ranckor and Icknor arrived to take you back to the pit.
Your second fight had arrived. Would you fight for me now? Or had I pushed you to another choice?
